A Haven for . . .

In addition, many organizations and galleries support the local art communities. This includes the free concerts the Calaveras Arts Council presents on Wednesday evenings, from June through August (see events for details) each held in a different community park in Calaveras County. For many years now, thousands of people of all ages have come to picnic, socialize and enjoy these concerts.

This fine art gallery offers a wide selection of original art displayed in an interesting 1860's building. The gallery is located across from the historic Murphys Hotel. Art lovers and browsers are always welcome. Don't miss the 2nd Sunday artist demonstrations. Open daily 10am - 6pm (Winter 10-5). Closed Tuesdays.

One of the most experienced and professional custom framing businesses in the Sierra Foothills, specializing in restoration of antique frames and oil paintings. Owners Mike and Janie Nelson are both accomplished artists as well, each with their own individual designs of impressionistic styles. Their many talents will be found in their stylish gallery on Main Street Murphys.

Located at the west end of Main Street. Locally handcrafted furniture anchor this multi-dimensional gallery, an extension of the Main St. Gallery. Organic furniture of manzanita, black willow, and other exotics compliment craftsman style traditional and custom woodwork.. Statuary, sculpture, unique lighting and mirrors, and original paintings complete this fascinating collection. Open 10am to 5pm; closed Thursdays.

The beautiful diversity of art that is featured at the Studio Gallery II includes originals, prints and fine art gifts. Visit with and share this art experience with oil painter B.R. Garvin, American folk artist Donna Perkins, watercolorist and pastelist Vienna Watkins, whimsical watercolorist Bambi Papais, and multimedia artist Maureen Erickson. Open 10am to 5pm daily.

Offering a unique art experience, the Gallery features large carvings and sculptures, glass and metal works, as well as paintings and primitive art pieces. The Gallery is situated just off Hwy. 4 on charming Main Street, in a 1940's historic home. The backbone of this gallery is the handcrafted furniture, designed and built locally utilizing native woods and natural finishes. Open 10am-5pm; closed Wednesdays.

The Calaveras County Arts Council is a private non-profit organization. Founded in 1980, their purpose is to coordinate excellence in the presenting and promotion of visual and performing arts of all cultures for artists, residents and visitors. Open Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; Saturdays and Sundays, 10 to 4. Check the website for exhibit schedules.

Located in the Forest Meadows Golf Resort, above Murphys. A beautiful & spacious straw bale constructed cottage set amidst the majestic oaks & pines of the Sierra Foothills. Resident artist is Judie Cain-Papais. This is a working art studio & classroom, plus a gallery featuring Judie's popular oils & limited edition prints. Open the second Sunday of each month & by appointment. Call for schedule of painting classes.

The gallery represents about 18 artists and craftspeople, mostly from Calaveras and Humboldt counties with a few from outside our area. Also, browse their collection on the web using the above link. The Harbinger Gallery can e-mail images of anything in the store. Located next to the Blue Coyote Cafe on Hwy 4, The Harbinger hosts monthly exhibits with meet-the-artists receptions.
